"SHH! SHEOL BE QUIET!!"

"But... Mama don't leave!" The cub strained, eyes flashing over the moving figures outside the makeshift prison his family had been living in. It hadn't taken much for his mother, Kricket, to break the door on the side away and burst from the building with Detrius, setting out to find the missing cubs once the fighting began. Sheol had been forcefully pushed farther back in the building, covered in hay and told to remain quiet before she left, a kiss lingering on his head. And then she was gone amidst the yowling and shouting of angry felines.

His parents, Kricket, Locket, and Detrius were all out there, running to retrieve his brother and sisters. They were out there in that mess and Sheol was scared. He was scared his family wouldn't make it back. He'd been about to go outside himself after his siblings, but he'd been too slow, and now here he was. Alone.

Tears in his eyes, the mixed orbs traced back to the doorway where a small scuffle sounded followed by a strangled yelp. Red seeped into the doorway just as a shadow had taken residence. The colors of their fur resembled the colors of his mother from where he squinted in the dark and the cub had hope, letting out a small whisper.

"Mama?"

But before the shadowed feline could answer the call, a shout came from behind them, Kricket's voice ringing with panic, Sheol could barely see her form through Pine's legs, his sister Holo dangling from her maw with Locket and Detrius behind her, his brother and sister held by the scruffs as well. Holo, Hannibal, and Willow were all silent, eyes wide with tearstained fur.

There was blood on all of them and the speckled brown cub shuddered in fear. Why was there blood...?
